王子ジークフリートはある晩、森の湖畔で美しい女性オデットに出会います。彼女は悪魔によって白鳥にされ、幽閉されているのでした。その呪いを解くには、まだ誰も愛したことがない男性の真の愛が必要と聞いた王子は、彼女に永遠の愛を誓います。翌日城では、王子のお妃を決める宴が開かれます。そこへ現れたオデットにそっくりなオディールの魅力に目をくらまされた王子は、心からの愛を誓ってしまいます。その途端、舞台は一転。何と彼女は悪魔の娘だったのです。我に返った王子は、急いでオデットの元へと向かいます。

One evening, by a lake surrounded by a deep forest, Prince Siegfried rencounters Odette, a beautiful princess who had been captured by an evil sorcerer and turned into a swan. In order to render the sorcerer’s spell powerless, she needs to be loved by a man who has never fallen in love before. Once Siegfried knows this, he falls in love with her and swears his love to her.
The next morning, the ball is held at the palace in which Prince must declare a wife. As Odile appears, who is perfectly identical to Odette, Prince mistakes her for Odette and swears his love to her. Then at once, the stage completely changes. To Prince’s surprise, Odile turns out to be the sorcerer’s daughter. Realizing his mistake, Prince hurries to see Odette.

この公演のみどころは、やはり何といっても、現在《白鳥の湖》を踊らせたら世界最高と評されているロパートキナが、オデットとオディールの二役を演じている点です。孤高の美しさと、きわめて高度な技術を誇る彼女は、現役として活躍しながらも、既に踊る伝説と言われる程。彼女のソロや王子役と踊る〈グラン・アダージョ〉など、まさに圧巻です。

The production features Lopatkina, the best principal dancer of today for “Swan Lake,”who dances a dual role of Odette and Odile here. With her incomparable beauty and utterly sophisticated techniques, Lopatkina is already a legend while she still is at the forefront of the ballet world. Her solo and the grand adage with the Prince is nothing less than spectacular and miraculous.
